MEP
Rough-In
The initial phase of MEP installation where pipes, conduit, and ductwork are run through walls and floors before the finishes are applied.

In the Field
Rough-in happens after framing inspection and before insulation and drywall. All trades must coordinate rough-in to avoid conflicts β ductwork, plumbing, and electrical all compete for the same ceiling and wall cavities. Pre-construction BIM coordination prevents field clashes.

Rule of Thumb
Allow 2β3 weeks for MEP rough-in coordination on a typical commercial floor before drywall can start. Rushing rough-in creates punch list items that are exponentially harder to fix after close-in.
