Roofing
Fascia
The vertical board at the end of the rafters along the eave edge that supports the gutter and provides a finished appearance to the roof edge.
🏗️
In the Field
Fascia is a rot-prone location — it catches gutter overflows and gets wet regularly. Use rot-resistant materials (primed and painted, composite, or PVC trim) and make sure gutter hangers are anchored into the rafter tails, not just the fascia.
📐
Rule of Thumb
Gut the fascia back to solid wood before applying new material. One inch of rotten wood left under new boards will spread rot to the new material within a few seasons.
