Surveying
Property Line
The legally defined boundary that separates one parcel of land from adjacent parcels or public rights-of-way.
🏗️
In the Field
Property lines must be located by a licensed land surveyor — not assumed from fences, hedges, or a neighbor's verbal agreement. Encroachments over property lines create title issues that affect the ability to sell or finance the property.
📐
Rule of Thumb
Hire a boundary survey before starting any project near a property line. The cost of a survey ($500–$3,000) is nothing compared to the cost of building a wall in the wrong place and having to move it.
